this entry is special for you who are catholic. but for you who aren't catholic, you still can read this post as knowledge. hope this entry doesn't create any offense for other religions. because i'm catholic, so i write about this. i don't want to persuade you to be a catholic, but i only want to share about this topic because Christmas atmospheres are everywhere, of course in internet world, not only in the real life.
catholic people always prepare Christmas by lighting on candle in church's advent wreath every week and it is held for 4 weeks/sundays before Christmas. it's called advent season. in the first week/sunday, the lector of the church lights on 1 candle. in second week/sunday, the church's lector lights on 2 candles. in third week/sunday, the lector of the church lights on 3 candles and in the fourth week/sundat, the lector of the church lights on 4 candles. and we can't change the advent wreath every week! we should use the same wreath. hmm, in my church, we also can join holy mass on saturday night, so we can celebrate advent season every saturday. the advent season is not only held in the church, but also in so many catholic schools in my city. so yeah, when i was in middle school, i have made advent wreath for my classroom with my classmates.
actually, i didn't post about the first advent since the season started on 28th november. and honestly, i post this second advent entry is so late because it should be on last sunday. surely, on 28th november and 5th december, i have already joined the holy mass on my church to celebrate advent. so it remains 2 weeks away before Christmas! i really really excited because Christmas is coming soon. and i have decided to post about the third and the fourth advent for next posts on my blog. of course in different discussion about advent season! (:
so what is the meaning of advent?
there are only 2 candles which are lighting on the second week of advent
advent is symbolized by a wreath with pine leaf and 4 candles, the color of candles should be 3 are purples and 1 is pink. why do we put pink and purple colors on the theme? because the purple color represents repentance and the pink color symbolizes joy. in my church, after the lector has lighted on the candle, he/she recites a short statement of belief and faith as the candle is lit and then everyone in the church unites in prayer.
and every candle has their own meaning.
first candle, is called the candle of prophecy because it symbolizes the promises of the prophets delivered as messages from God that foretold Christ’s birth. the candle is a symbol of the hope we have in Christ too so it's called the hope candle.
second candle is called the candle of way, it shows that Christ is the way. catholics are lost in sin and Christ is the light sent into the world to show them the way out of darkness.
third candle is called the candle of joy tells that the only true joy to be found in life on earth is through Christ. all other joys are fleeting and they don't last.
forth candle is called the candle of peace. it reminds that Jesus comes to bring Peace to both the world and to people's hearts. without Christ, there is no peace in this world.
so yeah, this is enough about advent from me.
